Mehandi is the application of henna as a temporary form of skin decoration in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and the Maldives as well as by expatriate communities from those countries. This tradition also exist among some Arab Women particularly the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf nationals. The word mehndi is derived from the Sanskrit word mendhikā.[1] The use of mehndi and turmeric is described in the earliest Hinduism's Vedic ritual books. Haldi (staining oneself with turmeric paste) as well as mehndi are Vedic customs, intended to be a symbolic representation of the outer and the inner sun. Vedic customs are centered around the idea of "awakening the inner light".
Traditional Indian designs are of representations of the sun on the palm, which, in this context, is intended to represent the hands and feet.
Mehndi decorations became fashionable in the West in the late 1990s, where they are sometimes called henna tattoos. Henna is typically applied during special occasions like weddings and Muslim festivals such as Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha as well as in Hindu festivals like Karva Chauth, Diwali, Bhaidooj and Teej. In some Hindu festivals, many women have Henna applied to their hands and feet. It is usually drawn on the palms and feet, where the design will be clearest because the skin on these surfaces naturally contains less of the pigment melanin. Henna was originally used as a form of decoration mainly for brides.
In the modern age, usually people buy ready=made Henna cones, which are ready to use and make painting easy. However, in rural areas in India, women grind fresh henna leaves on grinding stones with added oil, which though not as refined as professionally prepared henna cones, brings much darker colors.
The term henna tattoo is figurative, because true tattoos are permanent surgical insertions of pigments underneath the skin, as opposed to pigments resting on the surface as is the case with mehndi.
Likely due to the desire for a "tattoo-black" appearance, many people have started adding the synthetic dye p-Phenylenediamine (PPD) to henna to give it a black colour. PPD is extremely harmful to the skin and can cause severe allergic reactions resulting in permanent injury or death.[2] Alata (Mahur) is a flower-based dye used to paint the feet of the brides in some regions of India. It is still used in Bengal
There are abounding types of mehndi patterns girls here. Mehndi or Henna Designs are altered for altered occasions. Like Mehndi Designs for Bride is absolutely altered for the Mehndi Designs on Eid for every girl. On weddings, usually girls awning their easily up-to bend and brides up-to shoulders.
Whereas on Eid or added parties girls alone use Henna on their hands. The Pakistani Mehndi designs are acclaimed in sub abstemious area as Arabic Mehndi designs are acclaimed all about the world. Arabic mehndi designs don’t alone awning the easily and feet, but aswell they are specialized in physique mehndi designs which awning the back, legs and abdomen as well. Pakistani Henna designs are added complicated appropriately alluring assorted loyalists. Arabic & Pakistani Latest Mehndi Design.

Call Strive Dreams Body art for beautiful quality artwork in the Phoenix Metro area and Globe/Miami AZ. We have Jagua while supplies last... book your appointment now!
Some background about the artist Joanna... I have been drawing as long as I can remember. When I discovered henna body art, I became enchanted by the ancient art form. I am mystified by the ornate patterns, history, beautiful smell, cooling sensation, healing powers and the many different traditions and meanings it holds. I have been honing my skills on myself and friends since 2000. I am mostly self-taught through books, the internet, and lots of practice. As a part of my studies I traveled to Morocco and experienced firsthand a culture where this ancient art has been established for thousands of years. I also furthered my studies at numerous workshops held at the Las Vegas henna conference 2007. I continually pursue deeper understanding and skills in henna.
The henna paste I use is all natural, I mix it myself using fresh organic henna powder and the finest all natural ingredients. For pregnant bellies I simplify my recipe to include only the mildest ingredients. It always stains a dark reddish brown color, never black. I don't use black henna as it can be dangerous for sensitive skin. The pictures that look black simply have not had the paste removed yet.
I have done henna for bridal showers, baby showers, belly dance events, ASU university, the Phoenix Tattoo and Body Art Expo, Macy's, the Phoenix Zoo, the Phoenix Children's Museum, the Science Center, the Tempe Art Festival, Bachelorette parties, bar mitzvahs, birthday parties, art festivals, proms and grad nights, many corporate events, Library programs in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Chandler, back to school festivals, sweet 16 parties, pregnant women, and one-on-one appointments. I am also open to traveling to the Los Angeles area for events.
For individual appointments in Phoenix, I have a studio in "The Firehouse", a funky art gallery in downtown Phoenix at 1015 N 1st street (just N of Roosevelt) 85004. Or in Miami AZ at Miami Art Works, 509 Sullivan st, Miami AZ 85539. I can also come to you for your convenience. I am very flexible and want whatever is best for you to have a comfortable and enjoyable henna experience. For larger events I work quickly and can do up to 15 designs per hour and can bring 1 or 2 more artists along to make sure all your guests needs are met.
My rates for individual appointments in my studio start at $20 minimum and go up from there depending on the size and complexity of the design. For me to come to you, there is a $30 minimum and a travel fee may apply. If you can not make it to your appointment, please do call me and let me know, as I often am going out of my way to be there for you. I will give you the same courtesy. Contact me for event rates...
Also available to give presentations and hands-on demos for school and library programs. Programs include a brief talk with a booklet to read along, and can include a tiny cone of henna for students to try it out themselves. I also will demonstrate small designs on participants. The craze for Hebrew tattoos is driven by the rising popularity of the language's symbolism for movie stars and other celebrities. As such, Hebrew tattoos have gained notoriety over the last few years, in trend with other tattoo art, thanks in no small part to figures like Victoria Beckham, Madonna, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
For some, a Hebrew tattoo can express a deep spiritual connection - whether for love, faith, or courage. For others, however, especially for those of a more Orthodox nature, Hebrew is a sacred language.
The old guard frowns upon tattooing some words in Hebrew anywhere in the body (in fact, Leviticus 19:28 says, "You shall not make cuts in your body...nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD."). As forbidding as the scripture might sound, Hebrew tattoos are still highly sought-after.
Hebrew Script
In order to have a true Hebrew tattoo, one must refer to the Hebrew script. Hebrew is a very elegant, pictorial language, what makes the Hebrew script perfect for tattoos. Here is the alphabet (it has some very similar letters):

Hands Tattoo Biography

It seems like everyone has a tattoo these days. Once sported only by sailors, outlaws, and biker gangs, tattoos are now popular body decorations for many people. And it's not just anchors, skulls, and battleships anymore  from school emblems to Celtic designs to personalized symbols, people have found many ways to express themselves with their tattoos.
Maybe you've thought about getting one. But before you head to the nearest tattoo shop and roll up your sleeve, there are a few things you need to know.
So What Exactly Is a Tattoo?
A tattoo is a puncture wound, made deep in your skin, that's filled with ink. It's made by penetrating your skin with a needle and injecting ink into the area, usually creating some sort of design. What makes tattoos so long-lasting is they're so deep  the ink isn't injected into the epidermis (the top layer of skin that you continue to produce and shed throughout your lifetime). Instead, the ink is injected into the dermis, which is the second, deeper layer of skin. Dermis cells are very stable, so the tattoo is practically permanent.
Tattoos used to be done manually  that is, the tattoo artist would puncture the skin with a needle and inject the ink by hand. Though this process is still used in some parts of the world, most tattoo shops use a tattoo machine these days. A tattoo machine is a handheld electric instrument that uses a tube and needle system. On one end is a sterilized needle, which is attached to tubes that contain ink. A foot switch is used to turn on the machine, which moves the needle in and out while driving the ink about 1/16 inch or less (about 1 millimeter) into your skin.
Most tattoo artists know how deep to drive the needle into your skin, but not going deep enough will produce a ragged tattoo, and going too deep can cause bleeding and intense pain. Getting a tattoo can take about 15 minutes to several hours, depending on the size and design chosen. If you’re really determined to get one of these tattoos and you’re having trouble finding an artist willing to do it for you, don’t be discouraged. If there is a particular artist you really want to have do it, but they have a policy against it, you can always try talking to them and assuring them that you are aware of the risks and willing to accept them. Agree to sign a form releasing them of any responsibility in the event that anything goes wrong with the tattoo. Recognize and agree that touch-ups will more than likely not be free, and that to maintain the quality of your tattoo, touch-ups may be necessary on a regular basis. If they still refuse to do the tattoo, the only thing you can really do is keep looking. There are tattoo artists out there that will do hand, foot and hand tattoos – it’s just a matter of finding them. Check your local phone book or branch out by searching other areas around you through online studio directories.
Keep in mind, though, that an artist that will do such a tattoo could simply understand the need and desire for all kinds of art  or they could just be willing to take your money and don’t care about you or any future consequences of your decision. Make sure you choose your artist wisely, and take very good care of your tattoo.
